We offer the below information as a reference for creating an allergy safe environment at Saint Alexander's Preschool.
Please consider washing your child's hands and face after breakfast each morning to prevent any possible cross-contact reactions.

Allergy safe snack suggestions
- ** It is important to note that when checking labels, items labeled 'processed on the same equipment' are NOT safe to send as snacks.
- Top-8-Free Snack Ideas
- Cereals: Rice Chex, Corn Chex, Kix, Trix, Lucky Charms
- Fresh fruit
- Canned fruit/fruit cups
- Applesauce cups
- Fresh vegetables
- Rasins
- Cereal Bars (aka Rice Krispie Bars)
- Rice crackers
- Corn chips (like tortilla chips or Fritos)
- Popcorn (Kettle Corn is generally dairy free; homemade works well, too)
- Old Dutch Puffcorn
- Fruit snacks - General Mills brands are generally safe but, as always, check the label. Try to avoid 'modified food starch' which can contain wheat
- Apple & Orange juice
Rold Gold Pretzles - contain wheat and milk ingredients, but are nut safe
Holiday Treat suggestions
- Bob's brand peppermint Candy Canes & Sweet Stripes - (made in a facility free of the Top 8 allergens)
- **Bob's brand candies will list allergen info, including possible cross-contact info. If you don't see allergen info, it's because that particular Bob's brand of candy was made in an allergen-free facility. Starlight mints are NOT allergy safe.
- Mike & Ike brand Holiday Medley Jelly Beans - Red and green jelly beans.
Life Saver Big Ring Gummies - Packaged individually to look like little Christmas wreaths (some Life Saver gummies may contain milk)
Tootsie Roll Candies - All Tootsie Roll candies are made in a tree nut-free, peanut-free facility, right here in the Chicago area.
Junior Mints - Made by the Tootsie Roll company so nut-free; may contain milk or egg.
Hershey's Candy Cane Kisses - Hershey is careful about manufacturing and labeling; their packaging reflects detailed allergen info, including cross-contact risk due to product lines. Candy Cane kisses do not have a nut allergy warning and according to Hershey reps, are safe for nut allergies.
York Peppermint Patty - Always nut-free, but may contain milk.
Dum Dum suckers and Smarties - are free of the Top 8 food allergens.
